Which is Better: GTA 5 or GTA 6?
Rockstar Games is not only having to go up against the sheer weight of above-average and possibly overwhelming hype as regards its Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) but is also lining its ducks in a row when it comes to challenging a hard act from profiting shelf space at participating retailers sometime in late March or early April, outmatching its predecessor Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA 5). Many have come out with GTA 5 and the upcoming GTA 6, but how better is it true? Now get started with the comparison.
GTA 5: A Cultural Phenomenon
Back in 2013, GTA 5 had changed open-world gaming significantly. Packed with a groundbreaking single-player narrative, the open-world experience of GTA: Online appealed to millions of players. In the fictional state of San Andreas, GTA 5 puts players in an expansive open-world setting, with missions to complete and vast cities to explore and establish some criminal biz.
The above list is as of August 2024. By then, GTA 5 became the 9th most awarded game of all time, with a colossal number of awards standing at 163. Then the game was remastered for PS4 and Xbox One before it was again re-released on PS5 and Series S/X, a reflection of its ongoing success as sales continue to tick over month to month even after more than a decade.
GTA Online is one of the main reasons behind this longevity, providing an ever-changing multiplayer universe. Rockstar Games has supported the game with a series of regular expansions, which have ranged in size from gigantic to those that only included new cars or other small updates, two large content packs per year, and more.
GTA 6: The Next Generation of Gaming

According to early reports, GT A 6 will have a larger and more complex open world than ever before, a greater scale and complexity even than the biggest GTA game yet, San Andreas. Some upgrades are being made, such as new graphics, improved physics, and a weather system. 101_ssX.jpg As you can see, the 3rd chapter will be brought back on PS4111_ss.jpg. Whether based in that world or a new one, the rumors suggest larger potential worlds with more character depth and story [better multiple protagonists], like GTA 5.
Where things get interesting is in multiplayer. GTA: Online continued to establish what an open-world multiplayer could look like, and fans expect GTA 6 will build on that legacy. Rockstar needs to make sure that the multiplayer mode of GTA 6 gives something new and adds more fun and excitement, as it has been keeping GTA: Online live for over a decade.

Which is Better?
In the long run, which one is better between GTA 5 and GTA 6 will be determined by how much content the single-player boasts relative to its open world size and how long it can drag you back in through the multiplayer. Grand Theft Auto 5 has a very high bar for its customers in terms of sales and time engaged per player. By the same standards, if Rockstar can provide a bigger, more open world to play in with improved gameplay mechanics and an even further polished multiplayer experience, then GTA 6 has every chance of outdoing its predecessor.
So, while GTA 5 has long secured its status as a gaming great, all we can do now is fix our collective gaze upon GTA 6 to see if it can pull it off. Should Rockstar do it right, GTA 6 won’t only lead the charge for the next installment but start a new era of new tales to tell.
